It’s never easy to send your son or daughter off to a university for the first time. By now, you’ve probably checked off nearly every box on the move-in checklist from a mini-fridge to a shower caddy. If your college student will be driving between home and school, it’s important to make sure that the vehicle they are driving is both safe and reliable. Luckily, Ford has two great cars, the Focus and Fiesta, that make great, reliable starter cars for young drivers. Let’s take a closer look at the benefits of both of these vehicles.
The Ford Focus is the perfect balance of style and functionality. Available as a hatchback or sedan, the Focus also has three upgraded versions including the Titanium, the ST and the RS. The Focus Titanium features an upgraded interior that strips away the feeling of a “cheap car”. For those who have long drives between school and home, having excellent fuel economy will be an important factor to consider for a starter car. Although the fuel economy varies across the different models, the standard Focus comes in at 9.2 City L/100km and 6.6 Hwy L/100km/8.0. Safety is another factor to consider when buying a car for a young driver. According to Auto Blog, the Focus is “built on a global structure engineered to meet international crash-test standards,” and received five stars across the board in overall, frontal and side crash test ratings. As an added bonus, the Focus is also very affordable, starting at just $17,199.
For the second year in a row, the Ford Fiesta has been named by Kelley Blue Book as one of the Top 10 Back-to-School cars. The Fiesta is safe, fun, dynamic and an overall great value. Available in a sedan or hatch, the Fiesta also boasts entertainment features such as SYNC 3, which is equipped with voice recognition, ultimate music streaming control and SYNC AppLink™. According to Ford, “[The] Fiesta helps to keep you and your occupants protected with seven total airbags including dual-stage front airbags, driver’s knee airbag, and front and rear side-curtain airbags.” The Fiesta has a price tag starting at just $16,049.
Both the Ford Focus and Fiesta will make excellent starter cars for your son or daughter.
