The start of the school year is right around the corner, which means it’s almost carpooling season. At City Ford, we want to make sure that your vehicle is in good shape and ready for its turn in line. Check out these tips to help get your car ready.
Check Your Tires
Underinflated tires can lead to uneven driving, inefficient fuel-usage and possibly permanent damage to your wheels and axis. Rich White, executive director of Car Care Council, said “Underinflated tires are under stress and will eventually wear unevenly, making them a safety hazard, not to mention an added expense since the worn out tires will have to be replaced sooner.” Make sure your tires are properly inflated by using a pressure gauge and also check the tread for signs of significant wear or damage. Additionally, if it’s been more than 6,000 kilometers since your tires were rotated, then you’re overdue!
Listen to Your Brakes
Does your car squeak or squeal? Without rain or snow on the ground, noisy brakes are a telltale sign that your brakes need attention. According to Cars.com, a continuous squeal when you’re driving normally means it’s time for new brake pads, while a grinding sound generally shows that your brakes are drastically worn down. Regardless of the kind of sound, it’s important to have your brakes diagnosed as soon as your car starts making noises.
Get a Car Wash
This is an easy one! Having your vehicle washed will not only make it easier for the carpool crew to recognize your car (and not a dirty brownish gray one), but it also helps prolong the integrity of the body materials. Be sure to clean the exterior, as well as the undercarriage, wheels and tires. And don’t forget about the interior! Right before the school year starts, get a deep clean with a good vacuuming to make sure you’re starting the school year on the right foot.
